Grieve – Self Titled Demo

What you have here is a three track demo, with the first two songs recorded at HD1 studios. Huddersfield band Grieve won the recording time from a battle of the bands contest in Bradford, with the final being held at the Gasworks. The band only had 10 hours recording time for which they were grateful for.

The first song is “You will listen” where you can hear a slight Pantera influence. There is some good guitar and drum work here, however I do feel that the vocals can take a little getting used to and, for some reason, they remind me a little of a band who disappeared years ago called Dearly Beheaded. Once you get used to the vocals it’s not a bad song at all.

Next song is “As good as dead.” Both in the music and the vocals you have a mix of classic Black Sabbath and old school thrash. This is the better of the two tracks and there is a lot of potential here.

Also on the CD is a song which I know very well from seeing these guys under their old name “Icarus”. "Iron gates" is an old song by these guys. For me this is still the best song they have done which is just pure classic heavy metal, even though it is played faster and more aggressively live. This will be re-recorded in the future and I know it will be a fan favourite if it isn’t already.

These guys say they just want to bring back heavy metal. None of this black, gothic, or what ever metal. Just plain simple Heavy fucking no nonsense metal.
